✦ Making healthier choices
Re-evaluate what you've been eating on a daily basis
You might not notice it at first, but step back and remember what you ate for the day. Are they healthy? How big are the portions? Did you have any snacks in between? We may not realize it but you could be eating serving sizes that are too much for one person, or you may have eaten 3 candies, 2 chocolate bars and drank 2 cans of Coke throughout the day. You might think they're 'normal' but if you look at it on a weekly basis - it might just be why the weight isn't coming off.
Start a food and exercise diary
To understand what you're eating better, write every single thing that goes into your mouth.
Yes, every - s i n g l e - thing. Do also write down the times whenever you're grabbing something to eat so you'll understand your hunger patterns.
2 whole wheat bread <-- It's important to include what kind of bread it is
Tuna filling <-- Did you use a whole can? Was it tuna in mayonnaise?
Rice <-- White/brown rice? How many scoops?
Chicken <-- Fried/grilled? How much did you ate?
Vegetables <-- Stir fried/steamed/raw? Were there any dressing?
Chocolate <-- Milk or dark? Cubes or bars?
You get the idea.
Easing off unhealthy food/drinks
This is the most important step in being healthier. Like I said previously, you are what you eat. It might be difficult at first because your body might be used to eating the food and drinks, and you will definitely have cravings - which is why easing them off slowly will help your body adapt better. Trust me, your body will thank you later.
Mcdonalds 2 times a week / 8 times a month --> once a week / 4 times a month
--> once every 2 weeks / 2 times a month
And eventually easing away fast food forever. Fast food is E V I L. If you really have to, just share the burger with a friend! Do not upsize, no extra sauce, change Coke to ice green tea etc. Why get Mcspicy double when you can get FiletOFish?
Starbucks <-- E V I L wtf I cannot begin to emphasis how unhealthy Starbucks is omg.
A cup of Starbucks coffee for the morning rush hour + a cup for lunch + a cup and cake after a long day at work --> NOPE
The occasional Starbucks is acceptable, when you're out with your group of friends for a catch up - that is fine. But everyday? Tall? With whip cream? Just imagine those stuff going through your system on a daily basis, lol. The last time I had Starbucks was.......... in November 2013. That stuff is loadddddded with sugar. Sugar is our enemy.
Search for healthier alternatives
White bread --> Whole wheat bread
White rice --> Brown rice
Tuna in mayonnaise --> Tuna in water
Sweet cravings --> Fruits
Nutella --> Peanut butter
Thousand island dressing for salad --> Olive oil / lemon juice
3 scoops of white rice --> 2 scoops of white rice --> 1 scoop of white rice + 1 scoop brown rice
The correct portion of your food servings should be 1/4 carbohydrates (rice/bread/pasta), 1/4 protein (fish/poultry/tofu etc) and the rest of the plate should be vegetables. Yes. 1/2 of the plate should be green.
In the beginning I had a really difficult time eating vegetables because I absolutely HATED them, but I have no choice. Vegetables are really healthy for your body. If you hate vegetables like me - you have to suck it up and eat them no matter what, lol. Do whatever you can to eat them! Chop them up finely, mix them with rice, drink lots of water to down them! Also remember to have a mix of vegetables for different textures and tastes. Remember, minimal dressing! (In my case, I just boil and eat them plain)
You are definitely not alone in this. What I did was search through Tumblr for health blogs and follow/bookmark them. The best motivation are the before and after photos! If they can do it, with photos to prove as well, you can definitely do it too! Check them out!
For the next series, I will be touching on fitness~

✦ Review - DHC New Slim supplement
These supplements are indeed for weight loss, but they are in no way meal replacements or laxatives. They are not harmful as they contain natural ingredients in them that aids in digestion, appetite control and improve general health. Please do a thorough research on the supplements for allergies before purchase/consumption.
DHC New Slim supplement
Allows you to eat your favourite snacks and bigger portions without gaining weight.
Product of Japan
I've purchased this on Ebay Singapore for $14+.
Contains 80 tablets a pack to last 20 days.
Powdered Seaweed 200 mg
Gymnema (Indian herb) 120 mg
Bitter Orange extract 40 mg
Melilot extract (Coumarin 5%) 40 mg
Peptides (Soy bean derived) 40 mg
Lecithin (Soy bean derived) 40 mg
Gutta-Percha tree extract (12x concentrate) 20 mg
Barley extract 20 mg
Maximum of 4 tablets daily. DHC recommends you to take the tablets approximately 30 min before meals.
1 tablet before breakfast - 1 tablet before lunch and 2 tablets before dinner
2 tablet before breakfast - 2 tablets before dinner
How I adjusted my dosage
Since I really eat a light breakfast or sometimes not at all (always rushing for work lol), I just take 2 tablets a day, before dinner. You can always adjust how many tablets you eat before a meal, just do not eat more than the recommended amount, which for this case is 4 tablets. Also always make sure to separate each dosage at least 4-5 hours apart.
Appearance and taste
The size of the tablets aren't too big, they're at a acceptable size - size of the pinky nail. Texture is squishy and has a slight dark brown colour. It does have a slight herbal taste but nothing repulsive - you can only taste it if the tablet lingers on your tongue for a while.
This really increase my bowel movements like crazy (and this is a good thing!) I find my bowels making sounds 1 hour after my meals and (well this is a little) farts just keep coming wtf - WHAT I AM TRYING TO SAY IS, you'll be going to the toilet more than usual.
The entire pack lasted me for 1.5 months (it is supposed to last you 20 days but I adjusted my dosage according to my meals) and I found my meal portions decreasing because I feel full easily. I'm also going to the toilet more often so I generally feel healthier and lighter.
My weight dropped 2KG but I paired my regime with simple yoga and I did not eat sweets, biscuits, carbonated drinks (coke) and sweet drinks (ice lemon tea). I basically ate fresh food, drank only plain water and brewed green tea.
Will I purchase this again?
Yes! I reaaaaally like that this improved my bowel movements! I do not pass my bowels everyday and suffer from occasional constipation so this is great. I also like that it prevents me from over-eating because I feel full easily. Every pack is also resealable so it is really handy!
The only thing I don't like about this is that I have to eat 30 minutes before my meals. I do not have a fixed timing for my meals so most of the time I just eat it just before. I do not notice much difference between eating them 30 minutes before and directing before a meal. But of course since DHC recommended to consume it 30 minutes before, that would be ideal.

✦ Switching to a healthy lifestyle
Since we're in June right now, I thought it'll be good if I did an update about my new years resolution of 2014, which is to have a healthy lifestyle and to feel good about myself!
This post to encourage anyone, and myself, that switching and maintaining a healthy lifestyle will be the best thing that you can ever give yourself!
First, A little bit about myself...all my life I've been really unhealthy (yes straight to the point, no sugar-coating my body condition). I hated exercising, almost never exercised, hated vegetables, ate none of them and I was just a blob, lol. The only proper sports I participated in was Chinese dance in Primary school. I do play sports sometimes, like badminton, roller blading and swimming, but they're like a twice a year thing. I am totally not exaggerating!
So I was overweight in Secondary school but that didn't bother me much because at that time I thought I was fine. Only until Secondary 3, which is about 15 years old, when I started to be more conscious about how I looked. I skipped meals and did little exercises like walking up the stairs and jump rope- the weight did come off, but it got back really quickly. From then on, I just kept being conscious about my weight, all through my Polytechnic years till the beginning of 2014.
What made me wake up and realize this reality? It was this years Chinese New Year. You know how Chinese New Year, there are a lot of titbits to snack on? So of course I snacked a lot, but one day when I woke up, I just felt really awful and heavy and unhealthy and (as weird as this sounds) I could feel my double chin pressing against each other, and I was like, holy smokes how did this happened? So I got up and went on the weighing scale - It read 60KG.
Okay so some of you might be thinking, no that weight is fine, but I am not a tall person. Never in my life would I thought that I would hit 60KG. My weight was always fluctuating between 51 to 55 to 58 to 56, but to hit 60KG, it really made me stop and step back to evaluate myself.
With past experiences with diets and starvation, I knew that this will not be my solution in losing and maintaining weight. I wanted to lose weight in a healthy way- so I went searching on Tumblr and Youtube! I've read many success stories, saw before and after pictures, and also people who are just beginning on their healthy journey. I was really inspired and it really motivated me to get started as well.
My journey began on 27th Feburary 2014 and I have already lost 5KG. I am still working towards my goal but it doesn't matter to me if it will take a year or more, because I know I will get there eventually :D Taking it slow and steady!
So what is a healthy lifestyle? Simple - Eating clean and regular exercise. That's it! From what I read, weight loss is 80% healthy eating, and 20% regular exercise. <-- please don't quote me on this lol BUT the point is, you are what you eat. You might have heard of this a lot of times but it is so true. You can be exercising 5 times a week, 3 hours everyday, but you're eating fast food, chocolate, drinking soda - the weight will never come off.
I think the very first step to a healthy lifestyle, is to evaluate what you eat on a daily basis, and make healthier choices. I started out this way, and even before I incorporated an exercise routine, I notice the weight was dropping. I felt healthier as well. I just felt really good and refreshed.
I shall end this post here, for now, and continue it in many future posts! I hope this series-to-be-thing will hopefully inspire someone to make healthier choices and to feel good about themselves. In future posts I will be posting about the food I ate, what to avoid, my exercise regime and all that good stuffs. Stay tuned!I shall end this post here, for now, and continue it in many future posts! ✦ Review - GEO Princess Mimi Almond Brown
It has been a long while since I last did a review. Today I will be reviewing a pair of circle lenses I recently started wearing - Princess Mimi in Almond Brown, by GEO medical.
This is not a sponsored post (although if anyone wants to...ㅋㅋㅋ)
Series: Princess Mimi / Bambi
Origin: South Korea
Design: Almond brown XMM-204
Frequency: Monthly disposal
Water Content: 38%
Base Curve: 8.6mm
I purchased this pair from an optical shop in Bishan Junction 8. They were having a promotion - 2 pairs for $40 so I split the bill with a friend.
The lenses came in a Magic Color box (they are actually in the Magic Color series as well), with a free contact case, which was handy.
The lenses I got were without a degree but I am sure they are available in various degrees.
The design of Almond Brown had a thick black rim around and a brown design fading inwards.
As you can see, the brown design is pretty much non-existent when they're on my eyes, lol. I guess it's because my eyes are black, so the brown could not show up well. From the other reviews that I read, the brown is really subtle, even on hazel eyes.
This design is really basic and I guess it is good for everyday wear because it is so subtle. I wished the brown was more opaque though.
The lenses are pretty comfortable, but if you're in air conditioned areas a lot, eye drops will be your best friend. These get pretty dry after 5 hours. Once they are moist, they're comfortable to wear. Not scratchy and I could not feel I was wearing them at all.
These are 14.5mm and I consider them pretty big for my eyes. As you can see, the lenses took up quite a lot of eye space! Moreover the brown did not show on my eyes, I just looked like I have a really big black abnormal pupil and I felt like I was a new X-Men troop. with the ability to stare into people's souls......
Nah, I don't think I will repurchase this again. The other designs from Princess Mimi are more interesting, especially the Cafe series! But those are 15mm..... That'll not be good for my eyes, ㅋㅋㅋ
Now I am deciding between GEO Angel Color and GEO Tri-Color... どうしよう... (⊃д⊂)

✦ Pokémon ふりかけ
So June is finally here! Time sure is passing really fast, we have reached the mid-year mark of 2014~
The Hello Kitty Bubbly World had also just ended! Did anyone collected the full set? I only bought 4 characters, Keroppi, Pompurin, My Melody and Badtz-Maru ☆ ￫ܫ￩ ☆
Today I am sharing about Pokémon ふりかけ!
ふりかけ is read as furikake, and they're basically seasoning toppings for rice. They come in many flavours, most commonly in seaweed and fish. I purchased this at Pokémon Center Osaka for about 300yen. These furikake are easily available in Japanese supermarkets, and in Singapore, they are available at Takashimaya Cold Storage and Mediya for about $5-6. Besides Pokémon, they also have Rilakkuma, Hello Kitty, Miffy and so on. A pack of furikake usually come with 20 sachets - furikake also come in resealable packs or in shakers.
The flavours I got in this packet are たまご (egg), おかか (tuna), やさい (vegetables) and さけ (salmon).
(You can tell I was more excited about the packaging than what's inside)
These are the close-ups of my favourite!
Infernape, because of course. Second most favourite fire Pokémon of all time.
Charmander, because baby of most favourite fire Pokémon of all time.
Garchomp, because look at it.
Bulbasaur because first gen starter.
Mewtwo and Pikachu. Mewtwo and Pikachu??!!?
You must be wondering how do the furikake look like? Well. I forgot to take a picture of it OTL. I still have many left so when I actually do remember to take a photo, I'll insert them in this post!
